As I wrote about earlier (last month I think), Owen was scheduled to have a speech evaluation. Because we weren't seeing any results with his play therapy, we felt like we need a specific evaluation just for speech. After rescheduling because of his surgery, today was the day! What a small world it is because his speech evaluator today worked with me at Forest Pines in Raleigh. She worked as our speech therapist there for about 6 months before moving away. It was fun to see a familiar face and it also allowed me to be more open and honest about Owen and his progress.
Sarah said that based on her observations and mine, Owen's speech is averaging around the 15 month mark, putting him 7 months behind schedule. She said it is probably because his ears were clogged and he seems to have some low muscle tone in his jaw. She recommended that he receive speech therapy once a week to see if the therapist can improve his tone and help with the formation with sounds. Sarah thought that he really is right on the verge of breaking out and in no time he should be right on track.
As I said before, I'm up for doing whatever will benefit Owen. I personally thought we should have been doing more sooner. I'm excited to see what the therapist will do and to watch his language skills soar. If he's anything like his mama, once you get him talking, he may never stop. :)

Hey guys - I'm glad to hear that Owen's progress is speeding up already and that the speech therapist has high hopes for his continual improvement! Also, another BOY! What a full house you will have, Shannon! Congratulations :)
I am so thankful that the surgery is helping him a lot and to improve on the speech too! The Lord is so good!
