UPDATED: 13th week

Today was my 13th week appointment. The doctor said everything was going well and I got to hear the heartbeat. We are scheduled to go back in 5 weeks for my next appointment and my ultrasound. That means MAY 9TH we'll find out the gender of baby Cox!!! Woohoo! What a fun Mother's Day present for the grandmas (and me)!

I was talking with my niece who is expecting her 2nd child, and we learned the sex of the baby of another niece (a girl.) So with Ben and Sarah expecting in October, and three of my nieces expecting Sept./Oct. we wondered what were the chances that all four babies will be girls. Here is my reasoning. I ASSUME that there is approximately 50% chance that one lady will have a girl. Then the chances that two will both have girls would be 25%, and three, 12.5% and so on. Since we already know that one is a girl, we are really saying that the chance that the remaining three will have girls is 12.5%. I have consulted with a math teacher at a nearby middle school. What do you say teacher?

007, I'm not sure about your stats. I'm not sure that every girl has 50% chance of a having a girl because of the chormosomes that the man contributes. I mean some I know some women only have boys or only have a family of girls. You'll have to keep me updated!

OK, Mrs. Cox. I got a reply from my math teacher contact at the nearby middle school. It is true that the chances aren't exactly 50% for having a girl. She thought the odds were slightly favoring boys, but the difference is negligible for our purposes, and she said my reasoning was correct. Of course we know that the sex of the baby is determined by the father's X an X chromosomes. You need Y's to have a boy. (Two X's make a girl, and an X and Y make a boy.)
