It Just Keeps Going and Going..

I feel like the last two weeks have been like the energizer bunny..it just keeps going and going. Let me recap for those of you haven't been here...

It all started last Sunday (the 11th) when Oliver came down with a fever. He felt warm but didn't really have any other symptoms.  He woke up fever free on Monday morning but due to the 24-hour fever free rule at preschool, we had to forego preschool.  By Monday night, his fever had returned with a vengeance...103.6. As I was dressing him for bed, I noticed he had a strange rash/whelps on his thigh and buttock. The two combined symptoms kind of scared me and I was afraid it would only progress as the night progressed. We quickly decided maybe we should take him to the urgent care across the street from our house.  I ran over there right before the doors closed. 2 hours later and some blood work, they still didn't really know what it was and sent us home with antibiotic. They told us to follow up with our pediatrician the next day.

Tuesday comes around and Oliver wakes up fever and rash free. We headed over to the ped's office for our already schedule 9 month checkup. Doctor can't find anything wrong with him and says it's probably a virus or rosela? She tells me to not give him the antibiotic because it's not needed. She said he can go to preschool on Wednesday if he has no fever.  Of course fever returns in middle of night.  No preschool again on Wednesday.

Thursday we go to Owen's evaluation with the school system to determine his new services. He was supposed to play in this playroom while a psychologist, speech, physical, and occupational therapist observed him. Poor thing was so intimidated with 4 women staring at him, he didn't perform up to his potential.  He finally warmed up and played for a little while but I have a hard time gauging if it was what they were looking for from him. We have another meeting next Tuesday to go over his evaluation, determine which services, and write his new goals.

Thursday night Owen developed a fever and Jeremy agreed to stay home with him so I could actually go to preschool.  Sadly half way through Friday morning, Jeremy started feeling sick and feverish so it was a good that he stayed home.  Luckily I stayed well through the whole thing..I mean someone had to take care of everyone.

Saturday we forego-ed our tickets to the UNC game because of the cold dreary weather.

Fast-forward Monday we go to preschool altogether. Tuesday we go to Bible Study Fellowship for the first time of the year now that everyone is well. Wednesday we go to preschool again and follow it with a very unproductive physical therapy session.

Today, Thursday was Owen's 1st round of testing.  I don't think I mentioned that we decided to go ahead and proceed with all the tests.  After talking to a friend who is a pediatrician, I started to question if Owen was really having silent seizures.  He has some of the symptoms and I was afraid that our worrying about finances might cause us to miss something that was really going on with him.  Therefore we decided to complete the whole gamut of tests.  Today was the MRI and blood work. Surprisingly, despite the early start, he did very well.  He cooperated with all their vital checks and questions and only asked for food once.  He did a stellar going to sleep and woke up easily afterward.  He, of course, was a little grumpy waking up, but after getting a little food in him, he was great.

The craziness continues into next week as we continue with preschool, Bible studies, celebrating Owen's 3rd birthday, and another tests.  Check back later to make sure we survived...:)
